Rockwall County Court Record Requests
A good written request starts with the basics. Name the record and the court. Include the case or cause number, the filing date or date range, and the format you want. From there, Rockwall County splits the work between two offices. District felony, civil, family, and juvenile files all go through the District Clerk. Misdemeanor, probate, guardianship, mental-health, bond-forfeiture, civil-appeal, and assigned county-court files belong to the County Clerk instead. JP and city records stay with the particular court that handled them.
- Use the county Judicial Records Search or re:SearchTX to locate a case where available.
- Choose the correct custodian and ask if the record is public, restricted, archived, or online.
- Request it at the counter, by mail, or through a confirmed phone, fax, or email procedure.
- State whether a plain electronic or paper copy is enough, or whether certification is required.
- Confirm fees, payment method, and turnaround before sending payment.
Both clerk counters work out of the courthouse at 1111 E Yellowjacket Lane, Rockwall, Texas 75087. The statewide portal is a second way in, but it does not replace the clerk for a full court records copy.
Rockwall County Filing Is Not Access
eFileTexas lets lawyers submit filings. It is not a docket search, and it will not get you a clerk copy of a court record. The line matters more here since Rockwall civil attorney e-filing hit its local milestone in 2015.
The official eFileTexas landing page shows the state filing channel.
A filing receipt may help identify a submitted document, but public availability and a certified copy still depend on the clerk and access rules.

Rockwall County Municipal Record Routes
A citation or ordinance case stays with the city's Municipal Court. Rockwall Municipal Court posts docket PDFs. It takes record requests through its own official process. Fate, Heath, and Royse City run public Tyler search pages. Those status and payment screens are handy. But they are not full county registers.
The Rockwall Municipal Court page illustrates the city-level route.
A city request does not transfer custody of a district or County Court at Law file.
Fate's citation portal shows search modes using citation and date of birth, license, vehicle, name, or business information.
Those fields locate a municipal matter, but the Fate court remains the source for its public file and orders.
Court Records: What They Contain
The full public file can reach well past the docket line that led you to it. What you actually get varies with case type and any restriction in play.
| Case header | Case number, court, judge, type, filed date, and status where public. |
|---|---|
| Caption and parties | Case style and roles, subject to privacy limits and redaction. |
| Pleadings | Petitions, complaints, answers, motions, and responses that are open. |
| Orders and judgments | Signed court rulings and final decisions; these control over a summary line. |
| Docket sheet | The dated register of filings, settings, returns, notices, and outcomes. |
| Other material | Exhibits, bonds, transcripts, payment records, or appeal records where maintained and releasable. |
Not every docket entry has an image behind it. A portal view can also hide restricted attachments or charge a fee for the document itself.
Rockwall County Clerk Custody
The clerk split makes or breaks a request. District Clerk Lea Carlson works from Suite 200. Reach her at 972-204-6500, with fax 972-204-6509. Her office keeps records of the 382nd, 439th, and 503rd District Courts. County Clerk Jennifer Fogg sits in Suite 100, at 972-204-6300, fax 972-204-6309. That office holds County Courts at Law records plus other assigned county-court files.

Both offices post weekday hours of 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., but money transactions stop earlier in the day. Call before you mail anything, and never ask one clerk to certify another office's file.
Copy Fees and Certification
A plain copy just reproduces the document you can access. A certified copy carries the clerk's authentication, which another court or agency may demand, so know which form is needed before you order. An image or printout pulled online is not automatically certified.
| Item | Rockwall County finding |
|---|---|
| Online docket view | Current county fee was not located; portal inspection was blocked. |
| Plain copy | Current per-page amount was not found in the official sources. |
| Certified or exemplified copy | Confirm availability and fee with the custodian. |
| re:SearchTX document | Search and document access differ; payment may apply. |
| Turnaround | No guaranteed standard or expedited time was documented. |
The District Clerk cuts off financial transactions at 4:30 p.m., and the County Clerk lists its final transactions at 4 p.m. Neither cutoff guarantees same-day work on a complex request.
Rockwall County Rule 12 Requests
Texas Rule of Judicial Administration 12 covers judicial records other than ordinary case records. A regular court file follows the law and rules governing that court and its clerk. Texas Government Code section 552.0035 says the same thing. It states that judiciary information access runs through Supreme Court rules or other law. So a Public Information Act request will not pry open sealed case material. The Texas judiciary's Open Records Policy walks through written requests, the custodian, and how a response or denial works. The appeal it describes goes to the OCA and must come within 30 days. Identify the record and its custodian first. For ordinary pleadings or judgments, start with the clerk. Do not stamp Rule 12 on everything.
Access Rules for Court Records
Public access is not blanket access to every attachment. Texas Rule of Civil Procedure 76a presumes civil court records are open but allows sealing on required findings. Appellate Rule 21c demands careful handling or redaction of sensitive identifiers. Texas Family Code Chapter 58 restricts juvenile-record access.
Key access rules:
Texas Rule of Judicial Administration 12 policy covers requests for appropriate judicial records.
Texas Government Code Chapter 552 recognizes the judiciary-specific access framework.
Texas Family Code Chapter 58 places special limits on juvenile records.
Sealed, restricted, health-related, victim, witness, financial, and minor information may be withheld or redacted. A missing image proves nothing about whether the document or case ever existed.
Rockwall County Rules and Forms
The statewide Texas judicial topics portal points to court rules, forms, bail material, notices, and protective-order information.
It provides state context, but it does not become the custodian of a Rockwall County case file.
If a clerk sends you elsewhere, ask for the exact court and custodian. Double-check the case number and date. Older Justice Court material may pass through the County Archive Center. It returns to the precinct after that. A formal city request covers city-held material only. Start with the Rockwall County docket search channels to identify the case. Then ask the maintaining clerk for the specific public document.
Keep the response, the receipt, and your exact request wording in one place. That paper trail lets the Rockwall County clerk trace a later question without staff having to rebuild your request from memory. If a court record comes back denied or redacted, ask which rule, statute, or court order controls, and what review path is open to you.
